Six men arrested in major Red Deer drug bust

Red Deer City RCMP have arrested six males and laid multiple drug and firearm charges.

Red Deer City RCMP have arrested six males and laid multiple drug and firearm charges.

The arrests resulted from drug trafficking investigations and the execution of five search warrants in which police seized drugs, weapons and money.

Matthew Earles, 24, of Sylvan Lake was taken into custody after RCMP executed a search warrant in Sylvan Lake on Friday. Earles is charged with:

• two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking

• one count of possession of a controlled substance

• one count of possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000

• four counts of fail to comply with condition of recognizance

He has been remanded into custody and is set to appear in Red Deer provincial court today.

Eric Herbert, 22, of Red Deer was taken into custody after police executed a search warrant on a resident in the area of Oldring Crescent in Red Deer on Friday.

Police seized drugs, cash and a high-powered assault rifle.

Herbert has been charged with:

• one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm

• one count of careless storage of a firearm

• one count of tampering with a serial number

• one count of possession of prohibited device

• two counts of possession of a controlled substance

• two counts of fail to comply with condition of recognizance

He was remanded into custody and is set to appear in Red Deer provincial court on Feb. 10.

Ryan Bryce, 23, of Red Deer, was arrested after police executed a search warrant on a residence in the area of Kerry Wood Drive in Red Deer, also on Friday.

Drugs, cash and a loaded handgun were seized.

Bryce has been charged with:

• one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

• one count of careless storage of a firearm

• one count of possession of a restricted weapon

• four counts of fail to comply with condition of recognizance

He was remanded into custody and is set to appear in Red Deer provincial court today.

A 22-year-old male from Red Deer was taken into custody after RCMP executed a search warrant on a residence in the area of Inglewood Drive in Red Deer on Tuesday.

Drugs, four long-barrel firearms and one handgun were seized.

The man, who cannot be named until charges are laid in custody, has been charged with:

• one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking

• one count of possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000

• four counts of drive while prohibited

He is awaiting a judicial interim release hearing.

Two males were taken into custody after police executed a search warrant in the area of Ironstone Drive in Red Deer on Tuesday.

A large amount of cash, drugs and one handgun were seized.

A 26-year-old from Red Deer, who cannot be named until information is sworn, has been charged with:

• one count of production of a controlled substance

• three counts of possession of a controlled substance

• two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking

• one count of possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000

• one count of possession of a firearm with ammunition

• one count of possession of a restricted weapon

• one count of unsafe storage of a firearm

• one count of possession of a weapon without permit

• one count of child endangerment

He is in custody and waiting for a judicial interim release hearing.

A 30-year-old male of Red Deer, who cannot be named until information is sworn, has been charged with:

• one count of production of a controlled substance

• three counts of possession of a controlled substance

• two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking

• one count of possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000

• one count of possession of a firearm with ammunition

• one count of possession of a restricted weapon

• one count of unsafe storage of a firearm

• one count of possession of a weapon without permit

• one count of fail to comply with conditions of an undertaking

• one count of child endangerment

He is in custody and is waiting for a judicial interim release hearing.

Red Deer City RCMP will be holding a press conference at 3 p.m. today to discuss these arrests.
