Skydiver dead after weekend jump

A 30-year-old Calgary man died while skydiving near Innisfail airport on Saturday night.

A 30-year-old Calgary man died while skydiving near Innisfail airport on Saturday night.

Innisfail RCMP said they were called to the scene west of Innisfail at 9 p.m. along with EMS. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was reported to be an experienced skydiver who had completed several other successful jumps that day.

On his final jump, fellow skydivers in the group advised that something didn’t seem quite right. They lost sight of him.

When the group got safely to the ground, he was unaccounted for. The man was located a short time later in a field near the runway.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

The identity of the man has not yet been released.
