A man died after a small plane crashed on Saturday near Lacombe.

Blackfalds RCMP responded to a distress beacon from an aircraft Saturday afternoon. A downed plane was located in a remote and rural area, near the intersection of Range Road 241 and Township Road 412.

There were two occupants of the small plane and the male pilot was located deceased at the scene. The male passenger was extracted from the wreckage and transported to an Edmonton area hospital with serious injuries.

The Transport Safety Board of Canada deployed two investigators Sunday, following a report that a small aircraft collided with terrain on Saturday, around 5 p.m.

According to an email from TSB, while on-site, investigators will gather information, document the scene and determine the next steps in the investigation.
