UPDATED: Snowfall warning upgraded to winter storm warning for Red Deer

UPDATED: Residents may see more than 25 to 25 cm of snow

Red Deer’s snowfall warning has been upgraded to a winter storm warning with 25 to 35 cm of snow now expected.

The storm warning also includes Lacombe, Stettler and Rocky Mountain House areas.

Environment Canada said heavy snow will continue to intensify and move southward through the day. Heavy snow will continue through Wednesday night and most of the day Thursday before beginning to gradually taper off Thursday evening.

In the mountain parks and along the foothills snowfall accumulations may reach as high as 50 cm in a few localities, especially over higher terrain.

Environment Canada snowfall could make travel difficult and people are advised to postpone non-essential travel until conditions improve. They should prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.

Earlier this morning Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning Central Alberta.
