Donated socks will be thrown onto the ice at Saturday’s Red Deer Rebels hockey game during Sockey Night at the Centrium.

Warm feet for all is the goal of the United Way, which has been collecting socks for weeks (many donated by local chiropractors) for this event.

This 11th annual Sockey Night “will be a bit different,” said Brett Speight, CEO of United Way Central Alberta.

Instead of purchasing a pair of socks, sports fans who attend the game will get a free pair of socks to throw onto the ice during the second intermission.

This way, sports fans of all ages can share in the fun, added Spreight.

This year, the United Way is shining a light on complex issues such as homelessness with its #Unignorable campaign.

Central Albertans are being asked to “show their local love and be a part of the solution.”

Donated socks will be gathered up and delivered to partner agencies Monday. The non-profits will ensure they get on the feet of those who need them most.
