Some business offices can now officially move into Riverside Light Industrial Park after Red Deer city council enacted a zoning change.
Citing flexibility and the need to adapt to changing business needs, the majority of councillors voted on Wednesday to rezone several Riverside Light Industrial properties to Industrial/Commercial zoning to allow office uses.
The only councillor opposed was Frank Wong, who expressed concerned about reducing the availability of light industrial land close to the city centre. He was also against allowing more office space to spill out of the downtown.
Other councillors felt they were responding to existing property owners’ needs in Riverside. In many cases, these business owners already had their own offices in their buildings and wanted to be able to rent to office tenants.
