MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — A southern Alberta man charged with a hate crime and numerous firearms offences has pleaded not guilty.
Loki Hulgaard appeared with his lawyer Wednesday in Medicine Hat provincial court, where Hulgaard elected to be tried by a judge alone.
Hulgaard was charged in August 2018 with inciting hatred after attempting to spend currency with anti-Semitic slogans on it at a Medicine Hat grocery store.
A police search of his home found four guns — two of which had their serial numbers scratched off — three over-capacity magazines and 1,200 rounds of ammunition, as well as hate literature.
The Crown changed the charge in January to wilfully promoting hatred.
Hulgaard’s next court appearance is set for Oct. 30 at which time a trial date is likely to be set. (Medicine Hat News)
