A speeding motorcyclist pulled off Hwy 2 and led police on a foot chase near the Olds overpass on Thursday.

At about 1:30 p.m., RCMP traffic enforcement officers noticed a northbound motorcyclist on Hwy 2 who was travelling at “an extremely high rate of speed” just north of Airdrie.

Police officers couldn’t catch up to the 24-year-old male driver from Calgary until he became caught up in traffic near the Olds overpass at the junction of Hwy 27.

When the motorcyclist saw officers were gaining on him, he quickly pulled his motorbike over, jumped off, and attempted to flee on foot.

Police from the Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit soon captured him. The motorcyclist is charged with numerous criminal and traffic charges. Police are continuing to investigate.
