Red Deer’s art gallery receptions for April will actually run on the second Friday of the month, being bumped back by a week because of the Easter long weekend.

The next ‘First Friday’ will actually be on April 14 — when spring will be in the air at the Riverlands Studio and Gallery at 5123-48th St.

Spring Air is a curated exhibit featuring the works of 24 local and regional artists and their takes on the new season. “It’s a show that is full of gratitude for… the beauty that springs forth after a cold, long winter.” The April 14 reception will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The show runs from April 3 to 28.

A troupe of local improvisers will be performing at the 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. reception on April 14 for the Seeds of Growth show of art works by 16 Red Deer Arts Council members. The exhibit can be seen until April 23 at the Kiwanis Gallery, operated by the arts council in the downtown public library.

The Red Deer Arts Council’s Community Gallery (at Unit 6, 4919-49th St.), will feature Bloom Where You are Planted, a ceramics and pottery show by local artists from the Red Deer Pottery Club. The April 14 reception will be from 5-7 p.m. The show will run from April 5 to May 31.

Long Live: Red Deer Polytechnic Year-end Student Exhibition toasts the return of in-person classes after several uncertain pandemic years. The display of two- and three-dimensional works by first and second year visual arts students runs to April 22. The gallery will be open to 8 p.m. on April 14.

The Black Pool Blue Pool exhibit of paintings and collages by Lori Sokoluk continues at The Viewpoint Gallery in the City of Red Deer’s Culture Services Centre, 5205-48th Ave. until May 11. The Gallery will be open until 8 p.m. on April 14.

Trial and Colour, works by Evelyn Thurmeier, are displayed in the The Corridor Community Gallery, downstairs at the Red Deer Recreation Centre until May 1. The facility wil be open to 5 p.m. on April 14.

It’s Just For Now, works by Abigail Pederson, are showing until April 30 at the Velvet Olive Lounge.

His Hands…my hand, by artist David Coates, is continuing to be shown at the Marjorie Wood Gallery in the Kerry Wood Nature Centre until April 20.
