Springbrook is aiming to lease some Red Deer County land for its future skatepark.
Red Deer County council gave first reading on Tuesday to a bylaw to lease 1.25 acres to the Springbrook Community Association for its proposed skatepark. A public hearing has been set for May 6, followed by second and third readings.
Council already approved $55,000 to undertake detailed design work for the skatepark, and create a concept plan for a future spray park and playground.
Another $150,000 has been approved for future construction.
The plan is to design the skatepark around an aviation theme, as a nod to the community’s history as a former air base and to tie into a proposed museum. Local fundraising is ongoing for the skatepark.
