Two cranes were needed to suspend engine 41 in the air as Alberta Prairie employees prepared for the 1920 steam engine to be lowered onto three pairs of wheels Friday morning in Stettler. The crown brass that the wheels ride on were recently replaced, a project that has cost more than $100,000. This type of work was last completed about 20 years ago. Engine 41 is used for about 80 per cent of the Alberta Prairie railway excursions to Big Valley, which attract some 20,000 visitors to Stettler every year. The steam engine should be up and running again by the August long weekend.
