An investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding a Stettler RCMP officer-involved shooting that left one man in hospital.

Members had been dispatched a little after 10 p.m. to a residence after receiving a report of a disturbance in front of a residence in town.

Mounties were responding to a local residence at 10 p.m. Sunday (July 24) when they were flagged down by a woman who said she was threatened by a man with a weapon. After patrolling the area, police found a man in a nearby alley and said in a statement Monday that one officer shot their gun and used a conducted energy weapon, more commonly referred to as a Taser.

The officers provided first aid until paramedics arrived. The man was taken by air ambulance to a hospital in Edmonton, where is in stable condition, police said.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has taken over the investigation into the shooting.

Per policy, the director of law enforcement was notified of the incident, along with the RCMP internal review process, which will include reviewing training, policy, police response, and the duty status of the members involved.
