Two male students are in custody after a concerned parent warned police about a potential school shooting.
Police said they received a complaint Friday from the parent, who told officers two students were overheard talking about “shooting up” William E. Hay Stettler Secondary Campus.
Stettler RCMP responded and collaborated with school administration. A lockdown was implemented in three schools: William E. Hay Stettler Secondary Campus, Stettler Elementary School and Christ King Catholic School.
Police alerted the school of the threat around 11 a.m. on Friday, according to a Clearview Public Schools release.
RCMP officers were on site to assist with the lockdown. Parents were notified at about 11:45 a.m.
At 12:10 p.m., the RCMP notified Clearview Public that the lockdown could be lifted.
“We appreciate the co-operation of our students, staff, parents and RCMP in addressing and resolving this matter,” the release said.
“Students were released for lunch at approximately 12:30 p.m. Afternoon activities resumed at 1:15 p.m.”
The two male suspects voluntarily went into the Stettler RCMP detachment, where they were detained.
“It has not been determined that this was a credible threat. Any concern relating to safety at school is always treated as a real threat until proven otherwise,” said Stettler RCMP.
The investigation is ongoing.
