Stolen car, firearms and electronics recovered after short police chase in West Park

At about 6 a.m. Friday Red Deer RCMP responded to a complaint of suspicious activity in the West Park neighbourhood after a witness observed a male checking the door handles of parked vehicles.

One man has been arrested after Red Deer RCMP responded to a complaint of suspicious activity in West Park early Friday.

A witness observed a male checking the door handles of parked vehicles at about 6 a.m. on Friday.

It is alleged the male suspect entered an unlocked vehicle and then returned to the vehicle he had been driving. When police arrived, they saw a silver 1987 Toyota Camry turn into an alley.

When the driver attempted to flee, he ran the car into a hedge. The male suspect then fled on foot, but was found a few minutes later.

It was later determined the car was stolen from Calgary a few hours earlier.

Police also recovered stolen property from the vehicle, including work tools, electronics and clothing. Two firearms were in the vehicle and police are attempting to find the rightful owners.

A 26-year-old male with no fixed address remains in police custody and faces multiple charges.
