Stolen off road vehicle collides with central Alberta police vehicle

Lacombe Police Service say a stolen off road vehicle allegedly collided with a Lacombe Police Service vehicle while fleeing from police on July 21.

Lacombe police said officers located a stolen Polaris RZR in the parking lot of English Estates Center, at 5830 Hwy 2A, at about 10:30 p.m.

When police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed and collided with a police vehicle, causing minor damage.

Police continued to follow the Polaris which got stuck in the area of Elizabeth Lake where the suspect was taken into custody.

A 47-year-old Ponoka man was charged with disobeying order of the court, resisting arrest, assaulting a peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop or remain at accident scene, flight from police, tampering with vehicle identification number, possession of stolen property, mischief to property, and a number of violations under various provincial acts.

He was released on a recognizance to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on August 16.
