Conservative Party leader Andrew Scheer says Canadians know carbon tax does nothing for the environment except make every day essentials like filling up your car more expensive.

Scheer said with countless Albertans struggling and out of work, Trudeau Liberals are imposing the punishing new carbon tax starting Wednesday.

The tax will make life harder and more expensive such as putting food on the table and heating your home.

“If the Trudeau government is serious about climate action, they would scrap the carbon tax and develop a real environment plan that tackles global climate change,” he said.

“After Justin Trudeau’s Liberals have spent the last four years making life harder and more unaffordable for Canadians, it is time for a better approach. If Trudeau wants to heal regional divides and foster national unity, he should stop attacking the Western Canadian economy, respect provincial jurisdiction, and scrap the carbon tax.”

Canadians want a real environmental plan to lower emissions, and that starts with green technology and lowering global emissions, Scheer added.
