A letter was sent home to parents of West Park Elementary School students on Thursday following an incident that led authorities to contact police.

The letter from principal Cam Pizzey said that at the end of lunch recess a student reported that while on the playground, an individual called out to them to get in the vehicle.

The student immediately reported the incident to the playground supervisor and a Red Deer RCMP police officer attended soon after.

“At this time we are uncertain as to the seriousness of the threat but always err on the side of caution. In these types of incidents, we always work very closely with the police to ensure the proper actions are taken.”

The school was reviewing student safety with all students on Friday.
