Students object to new RDC fee

Students at Red Deer College can learn more on Thursday about a new fee that will be tacked onto the costs of getting their education.

Steven Kwasny, president of the RDC Students Association, said the college is taking a backward step with the introduction in the 2011-12 school year of a $10 facility, service and technology fee that all students in credit and apprenticeship programs will have to pay.

Credit students, who take an average 20 to 30 billing credits, will be charged $10 per billing credit while apprentices will be charged $10 per week, said Kwasny.

Students association representatives will be available in the hallway throughout the day on Thursday to answer any questions students may have about the new fee, he said.
