A 22-year-old Sundre man has been charged with impaired driving causing death in connection with a fatal collision last December.

The crash, involving an eastbound pickup truck and a westbound car, occured at 5:20 a.m. on Dec. 15 east of Sundre.

The Olds man driving the car, Darryl Hyslop, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene near Range Road 44 and Highway 27.

Pickup driver Jaylan Armstrong was taken to a Calgary hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

RCMP charged him on March 28 with impaired driving causing death and driving with a blood alcohol level over .008 causing death.

Police said judicial authorization was obtained to take Armstrong’s blood at the hospital, where he was being treated.

Armstrong turned himself in on Thursday at the Sundre RCMP detachment, where he was arrested and held to appear before a justice of the peace for a bail hearing.

Armstrong was released on his own recognizance and ordered to appear in Didsbury provincial court on April 29.
