A Rocky Mountain House man accused of firing a flare gun at RCMP officers is facing charges.

Rocky Mountain House RCMP said they responded to a report of shots being fired at vehicles and homes at the town’s Sportsman Trailer Park around 8:20 p.m. on Monday.

“Upon arrival, officers located a suspect who before retreating into a home fired a flare gun at officers,” said RCMP in a Tuesday news release.

Police cordoned off the area and told residents to stay inside their homes while a police dog unit and the Emergency Response Team (ERT) were called in.

“Officers as well as ERT negotiators were able to make contact with the suspect and after lengthy negotiations the event was successfully de-escalated (and) the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody.”

A search of the property turned up pellet and Airsoft guns and a flare gun, which police believe were used in the alleged offences.

Charges are pending.
