Ponoka RCMP say a suspect was caught with break-in tools last Friday thanks to residents in Morningside.

Police said a series of calls from residents helped officers to locate and arrest the suspect.

Police said on Jan. 29, homeowners reported that a man arrived on their property in a car, and entered one of their vehicles. After confronting the man, he fled on foot carrying a duffle bag.

RCMP determined that the vehicle the suspect was in was reported stolen out of Calgary.

A call from a second homeowner indicated that the man was on another property checking doors. He left and went to a third residence.

The RCMP located the suspect, sitting in a truck at the third residence.

He was arrested without incident. RCMP seized several break-in tools from his duffle bag.

Shawn Andrew Alexis, 33, is charged with theft of truck, possession of stolen property, mischief, possession of break-in instruments and two charges under the Petty Trespass Act. Alexis was also wanted on numerous arrest warrants out of Calgary.

Alexis was released from custody and is scheduled to attend court on Feb. 26 in Ponoka.
