Suspect in August Maskwacis shooting arrested

Suspect facing a number of charges including attempted murder with a firearm

RCMP have found a suspect they were looking for in connection with an August shooting at Maskwacis.

Maskwacis RCMP with help from the Wetaskiwin detachment arrested Shayden Trey Rain, 20, on Monday. Rain, who is from Maskwacis, remains in custody and is due in Wetaskiwin provincial court on Tuesday.

An arrest warrant was issued for Rain who is facing two counts each of attempted murder with a firearm, discharging a firearm with intent to injure, pointing a firearm, as well as single counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm and using a firearm in the commission of an offence.

The shooting happened around 3 a.m. on Aug. 20 at Ermineskin Cree Nation.

Two suspects were identified by police. Another 20-year-old Maskwacis man was previously arrested and charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and failing to comply with a release order.

That suspect was released from custody and is also due in Wetaskiwin provincial court on Tuesday.
