Suspects arrested after gas station break-ins, thefts in Red Deer, Penhold and Blackfalds

More than 17 crimes resulting in theft of $650,000 were investigated

Two men and a woman were arrested after a series of central Alberta gas station break-ins and ATM thefts, going back to 2016.

Police investigated more than 17 crimes that resulted in thefts of $650,000 in cash.

These included break-ins at a Red Deer Shell station in 2016 and at a Fas Gas outlet twice in 2018, as well as a Blackfalds Fas Gas station twice in 2017, and a Penhold Fas Gas outlet last November.

Strathcona County RCMP studied video footage and identified alleged suspects in ATM-related crimes at gas stations across all four RCMP districts in the province.

Break-ins at Canmore, Airdrie, Valleyview, Bonnyville, Slave Lake, Coleman, Devon, Leduc and Sherwood Park were also part of the investigation.

Charges were laid for crimes dating back four years after information was shared among several different RCMP detachments.

An Edmonton man faces 33 charges, including 17 break and enters to businesses, money laundering and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

A Leduc man, faces 11 charges, including four break and enters to businesses, money laundering and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

Sider and Larter are in custody and are scheduled to appear May 1 in Edmonton provincial court.
