A stash of stolen vehicles and trailers discovered near Blackfalds earlier this week has RCMP looking for suspects.

Cpl. Barry Larocque said on Wednesday that people had used the location — a field just east of Blackfalds and Hwy 2A and Hwy 597 — as a starting point for an outdoor activity on Monday.

When they returned to their vehicle, it had been broken into. Blackfalds RCMP were called to attend a possible mischief and stolen property incident.

“While responding to that, (officers) saw a bunch of vehicles and trailers parked there that looked suspicious so they started running plates and VIN numbers ... and they were found to be stolen,” said Larocque.

Police seized three trucks and three cargo trailers. One of the trucks had been stolen from Red Deer within the last week or so, and one of the trailers was stolen in August.

“Now we’re following up on who might have been in possession and who dropped them there.”

The owner of the property rents out space on the land informally to people to store vehicles and other property.

The landowner is not a suspect, said Larocque.

“We have no suspects but we’re continuing to work on it.”
