A Red Deer teen was found with a can of bear spray after police were called out early this morning.

Just after 12 a.m., Red Deer city RCMP responded to a suspicious activity complaint in the Eastview area of the city. A witness observed a person checking door handles on homes in the area.

Police found a male matching the description in the area a short time later.

The officer spoke to the suspect who then allegedly gave a false name. He was then arrested and during a subsequent search, police say they found a can of bear spray.

A 15-year-old youth, who cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was released and will be in court on Jan. 27 on charges of one count of obstructing a police officer and one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
