A Mountview pharmacy remains closed after an SUV plowed through a brick wall before coming to a stop inside on Saturday morning.

The collision happened shortly before 10 a.m. and left the SUV lodged deep inside the Sproule’s Mountview IDA Pharmacy at 3757 43rd Ave.

“It’s crazy,” said Mountview IDA pharmacy manager Jordan Capicio, was not there at the time of the crash but went to the scene after hearing what happened.

Capicio said he has seen similar collisions in the news over the years but did not expect to share the experience.

A woman was alone in the SUV when the crash happened. She was taken away by ambulance, but Capicio had no other information about her condition. No one inside the pharmacy, which also includes a Canada Post outlet, was injured.

RCMP said on Monday an elderly female driver lost control of the vehicle due to a medical issue. She was taken to hospital for assessment, but no further information on her condition was available.

Red Deer Emergency Services asssistant fire chief Curtis Schaefer was also not able to provide an update on the woman’s condition or what led to the crash. He confirmed no others were injured.

Fire crews on scene had to shore up the building and the wall before a tow truck was able to safely remove the SUV around noon.

“Thankfully, no gas lines or electrical were impacted,” said Schaefer.
