Central Alberta Council on Aging meeting takes place on April 6, 9 a.m. at the Golden Circle Senior Resource Centre. The topic will be health and economic security for seniors. Changes to pharmacare and long term care, and what health care reform has meant for seniors, and how this impacts on financial security will be discussed. As well, Diana Gibson, research director for the University of Alberta’s Parkland Institute will be in attendance. She has conducted research on health care reform, to international trade, and water security, and is lead author of the book The Bottom Line: The truth behind private health insurance. The will also be a report on continuing care and wait times, and on recent meetings with Alberta Health Services about the upcoming transfer to Extendicare Michener Park. There is a $3 charge. School’s Out Spring Break! free programs will be offered in the Snell Auditorium at the Red Deer Public Library Downtown Branch. On Tuesday, April 6, see the movie Up from 1 to 4 p.m. Fun games and activities will follow. On Wednesday, April 7, Break-A-Leg with drama games and activities on stage, using puppets, props, costumes, and more, from 2 to 4 p.m. Bubble Trouble is offered on Thursday, April 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. Chew it, stretch it, make a mess with it. Discover the science of bubble gum. Bubble gum provided. Game On! is offered on Fridays, April 9, and 23 from 1 to 4 p.m. Rock out with Rock Band, play Wii Sports, and go old school with Game Cube. Finally, on Friday, April 10, children in Grades 3 to 7 are invited to join in the Amazing Race starting at 1 p.m. and ending back at the Snell Auditorium at 4 p.m. Teams of youth with at least one adult must register to take part in this event. Foreign Film Screening of Springtime in a small town — Mandarin with English subtitles will be shown on April 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Red Deer Public Library in the Snell Auditorium. The film takes place in South China in the spring of 1946, less than a year since the defeated Japanese withdrew from China. Phone 403-342-9100.
