How dogs can help people with brain injuries maintain their independence seminar with speaker John Dignard of Wetaskiwin will be held at A Gathering Place, 5021 Ross Street (formerly The Club Cafe), on Nov. 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. Dignard, who lives with brain injury, has trained the dogs himself, and currently relies on and travels with his guide dog, Eve. Annual Halloween Food Drive in support of Red Deer Food Bank takes place on Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Volunteers will be wearing identification tags, and may have a candy bag with them as well. Food items needed most include canned vegetables, soups, dry soup, macaroni and cheese, canned tuna and chicken (small flat tins), peanut butter (500 ml size), pasta, pasta sauce, and rice. If possible, donations could be organized beforehand, and placed at the door for pick up. Cash donations in a sealed envelope are also graciously accepted.
