RCMP allege Sylvan Lake man bilked five people out of more than $100,000 in total

A Sylvan Lake man is facing fraud charges after allegedly bilking five victims out of more than $100,000.

Sylvan Lake RCMP said they were alerted in June 2019 by someone who claimed to be the victim of fraud involving two companies that he invested in dating back to June 2018. The RCMP launched an investigation into both companies.

Four other alleged victims also came forward telling RCMP that they had invested money with the accused for the development of safety products.

Red Deer RCMP Financial Crimes Unit and General Investigation Section were both involved in a “complex and lengthy” investigation.

“This investigation included multiple judicial authorizations and extensive witness evidence and eventually led to criminal charges being supported,” said police.

Bradley Boksteyn, 58, of Sylvan Lake has been charged with five counts of false pretenses over $5,000 and five counts of fraud over $5,000.

He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Red Deer provincial court court on Wednesday.
