A 38-year-old Sylvan Lake man has been charged with child luring.

Sylvan Lake RCMP launched an investigation after receiving a complaint that a man was allegedly texting a teenage girl.

Police determined other citizens had a concern about inappropriate contact from the suspect.

While the man did not physically meet with the girl, the investigation indicates he was making efforts to meet with her, RCMP said Wednesday.

David Brown was arrested Tuesday and was released on strict conditions following a bail hearing. He is scheduled to appear in Red Deer provincial court on July 31.

“An incident like this is a good reminder to be aware of your children’s online and text message interactions, and to never send personal information to any person you do not know,” said Staff Sgt. Jeff McBeth.

“I am grateful that we were able to conclude this investigation quickly and before there was any physical contact.”

Anyone involved in similar incidents is asked to contact Sylvan Lake RCMP at 403-887-3333.
