Sylvan Lake’s long-awaited recreational complex is nearing completion.

The town says the $33.5-million NexSource Centre is expected to be open at the end of March.

Construction will wrap up soon and the staff will begin grooming the facility, setting it up and training staff.

Sean Durkin, recreation and culture town manager, said weekly updates will be provided on the town’s website and Facebook page.

A special grand opening will take place in May. More details, including the date, are still to come.

The facility includes a five-sheet curling rink, arena, three-lane running track, seniors centre, children’s play and youth activity centres, meeting rooms and amulti-purpose civic space.

It will also tie into the town’s Aquatic Centre, which has been closed since last spring when corrosion in support columns was detected.

The complex will also be home to the town’s Visitor Information Centre.
