Paralympian swimmer and local athlete Tammy Cunnington headlines the 11th Special Olympics Red Deer Celebrity Breakfast.

The fundraiser, held on June 13 at the Harvest Centre, Westerner Park, supports more than 300 people with intellectual disabilities who take part in 12 sports offered by Special Olympics Red Deer.

Cunnington won three medals at the Para-Pan American Games in 2015, holds the world record in the S4 50-metre butterfly and competed in four 2016 Rio Paralympic Games events.

She set the record at the Olympic and Paralympic swimming trials. Her best result at the Paralympics was an 11th place finish in the 50 metre butterfly.

Cunnington was left a paraplegic after she was struck by an airplane at the 1982 Ponoka air show. She has full use of her right arm, core and shoulders.
