The annual tarp auction for the Westerner Days chuckwagon races has been postponed until further notice.

And the fate of July’s Westerner Days is still undetermined.

The auction for advertising rights on the chuckwagons was supposed to be held this week. But with public gatherings in the province reduced to 15 people or less, due to measures to fight the spread of COVID-19, the auction is not possible at this time.

“Our hope is to reschedule the event to a later date or find an alternative way to host the event,” said Meghan Samson, marketing and communications manager for Westerner Park.

Westerner Park officials say they are continuing to monitor the COVID-19 situation.

“In the coming days, weeks and months, we will evaluate the situation and make any necessary decisions” — including whether the 2020 Westerner Days fair can go ahead as planned, said Samson.

So far, the government has stated that COVID-19 prevention measures will extend to at least June 30. Westerner Days is scheduled for July 15 to 19.
