EDMONTON — The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is asking Alberta’s privacy commissioner to investigate allegations of government interference in the freedom of information process.
The federation made the request in a letter to commissioner Jill Clayton.
It comes after the CBC revealed documents showing former Health Department press secretary Bart Johnson was in possession of documents requested by the CTF two months before they were handed over.
According to the documents, Johnson crafted messages for Health Minister Fred Horne to deliver when the information was released in February 2013.
The CTF says the delay equates to political interference and violates freedom of information laws.
Premier Dave Hancock insists that his government is not interfering in freedom of information requests.
