A 16-year-old boy has been struck and killed while walking on a southern Alberta highway.

BALZAC — A 16-year-old boy has been struck and killed while walking on a southern Alberta highway.

RCMP say the teen may have been dealing with mechanical problems with his vehicle when he was hit by a pickup truck overnight on Highway 2, near Balzac.

They say the pickup was heading north in the middle of three lanes when the boy was struck.

The Airdrie resident, whose name has not been released, was wearing dark-coloured clothing.

He died at the scene and his vehicle was found nearby.

Police say speed and alcohol were not factors in the accident and charges are not being considered.
