Two more people are officially in the running for a Red Deer city council seat in the April 22 byelection, bringing the total candidates number to 10.

Jason Chilibeck and Liam Milaney filed their papers before nominations closed on Monday.

Both Chilibeck and Milaney have previously run for public office. Milaney, a building inspector, previously expressed concerns about unemployment and downtown deterioration, while Chilibeck, a business consultant with a financial background, has spoken of the need for fresh ideas in local politics.

They join eight people who previously announced their candidacy: Retired police officer and former city councillor Buck Buchanan; videographer and former community associations president Mark Collings; former Red Deer Polytechnic instructor Linda Cullen-Saik; public school teacher Hans Huizing; financial analyst Chad Krahn; mental health worker Ashley MacDonald, former oilfield administrative worker Jaelene Tweedle, and construction worker/community builder Calvin Yzerman.

Three advance vote stations will be open on April 18, 19 and 20 at Parkland Mall, Baymont by Wyndham in downtown Red Deer, and Salon B in the Prairie Pavilion at Westerner Park.

These three voting stations are also open on Election Day, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Accessible voting devices will be available during Advance Vote only at the Parkland Mall and Baymont by Wyndham voting locations. These devices allow voters with varying abilities to make their selections independently during the advance vote days.

Residents are encouraged to visit elections.reddeer.ca for more information about the byelection.
