Red Deer County has awarded a $1.3-million contract to renovate and expand the Delburne Agriplex Arena.

Shunda Construction was the winning bidder on the project, which was budgeted at $1.5 million.

The winning bid was $1.347 million, plus $163,000 for engineering and contingency costs.

The new addition will include a livestock wash bay, four dressing rooms with two shared washrooms, an ice resurfacing machine room, and mechanical and electrical spaces.

Five bids were submitted, but Shunda’s was the only one that met all of the requirements.

The winning bid was reviewed by a consultant and is considered competitive, said Jo-Ann Symington, county community services manager.
