The final phase of construction at the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre kicked off Friday.

The third phase of the $3.9-million project will include a major reconfiguration of the ER.

The first two phases included a new pharmacy, gift shop relocation and two new labour and delivery suites.

A temporary emergency department will be established in another part of the hospital to allow for renovations to take place.

Patients will continue to be seen without interruption.

Alberta Health Services said in a release that in-patient beds will not be impacted.

The County of Stettler currently has 24 active COVID-19 cases and nine recovered, according to the province’s geospatial mapping.

Funding for the project was provided in part by the government of Alberta, as well as the Stettler Health Services Foundation.

The foundation, which works with the community to make decisions about how best to allocate health-related donations, is committed to raising $650,000 to support the renovations.
