Three people who led Innisfail RCMP officers on a high-speed chase in two vehicles were charged with theft and possession of stolen property.

At about 6 p.m. on Oct. 19, Innisfail RCMP responded to numerous reports of two vehicles driving erratically in Red Deer County. A white Toyota SUV and a black Ford sedan were driving in tandem on Hwy 2A approaching Innisfail.

Both vehicles fled at high speed, passing motorists on the shoulder, trying to evade police.

The white SUV, which police found had been stolen out of Cochrane that morning, eventually blew a tire and was abandoned just south of Innisfail. Police believed the occupants then jumped into the black Ford sedan and continued travelling south.

A short time later, a black sedan was found abandoned near Bowden after hitting a deer. Police investigators discovered it had been stolen hours earlier from a business outside of Innisfail and was the same vehicle that had earlier fled from Innisfail RCMP.

Olds RCMP then received reports of suspicious people in Bowden. With assistance from Didsbury RCMP and police dogs, Olds officers arrested three suspects. Innisfail RCMP were allegedly able to link these three people to the stolen vehicles.

A 34-year-old man from Regina, a 25-year-old man from Regency, Sask., and a 24-year-old woman from Regina were jointly charged with possession of stolen property, theft of a motor vehicle and flight from police.

They were individually charged with failing to comply with a release order, possession of a controlled substance, and obstruction of a police officer.

The suspects are to appear on Nov. 6 in Red Deer Provincial Court.
