Three of Alberta’s best blues musicians will be performing as a trio in Red Deer next week.

The Central Music Festival Society presents BMW (Belzner, McLean and Williams) on Jan. 27 at the Elks Lodge, 6315 Horn St.

The trio was formed when friends Kevin Belzner (drums) Big Dave McLean (guitars harmonica, vocals) and Tim Williams (guitar, mandolin, vocals) got together to do a set at the Edmonton International Blues Festival. Their performance went over so well with the audience they have been playing together ever since, and released the CD Catfish in 2019.

Their set list encompasses some Delta blues standards, West Coast Club blues, and original tunes. The trio’s shows are also always laced with a lot of humour.

McLean is a multiple Juno and Maple Blues award-winner. Williams was a featured artist on four Juno Award-winning recordings and has a dozen Maples Blues nominations, and Belzner is a past recipient of the Calgary Blues Music Association’s Drummer of the Year award.
