Three Red Deer women were honoured for their 60-year membership with a sorority.

The Red Deer chapter of Beta Sigma Phi (International) recently honoured Karen Gordon, Rennie Reorda, and Doris Peck for their six decades with the community-based social group.

The women received certificates and commemorative pins at a meeting of the local chapter.

Beta Sigma Phi, named for Greek letters meaning Life, Learning and Friendship, was started internationally in 1932, and in Red Deer in the early 1950s.

Group members meet in members homes twice monthly for an educational or cultural program and friendship.

Social events, gatherings, community service and conventions are held locally. There are also regional and international gatherings, such as the Western Regional Convention held in Red Deer In 1980 for over 500 women.

The 90th Anniversary International convention of Beta Sigma Phi will be held in Vancouver in 2022.
