Extending ticket sales for the 2021 Red Deer Kinsmen Dream Home turned out to be the right move, says the lottery chair.

The Dec. 23 deadline was extended to Jan. 31 because sales had not yet reached the goal set by the club. As of midnight on Monday, about 60 per cent of tickets were sold so the extension served its purpose, said Ken Waters.

“We did close the gap. During that extra month we got tremendous support from Red Deer and area so we were able to push past losing money into some profit which is outstanding news for such an unusual year,” Waters said.

The Kinsmen Club of Red Deer has run the annual Dream Home Lottery from October to December since 1981.

The 2021 grand prize show home in Timberlands, located at 26 Tillier St., was built by True-Line Homes and is valued at $744,000. The 2,368 square foot bungalow features three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a den, a fully upgraded kitchen with premium appliances, a quartz island, and walk-in pantry.

The prize lineup features over 100 prizes worth more than $860,000 including electronics, exercise equipment, home renovation packages, vacations, and more.

Waters said the club is very thankful so many people who stepped up to buy tickets.

“There are so many loyal people who buy every year. They make such a huge difference. You always need to add new customers, but it’s the repeat buyers, year over year, that is the cornerstone of the lottery.”

He said the lottery has many core local supporters who buy not just for a chance to win something, but also to support local community projects and programs that lottery proceeds will help fund.

“It’s the combination of having a chance to win something, but also being able to support a 40-year long project.”
