Torrington music program gets grant to purchase instruments

A Torrington school will be able to replace worn out band instruments as one of eight MusiCount award winners from Alberta.

Canada’s music education charity is helping 95 music programs across the country with s $1 million investment from coast to coast. The MusiCounts Band Aid Program, in partnership with TikTok, is granting up to $15,000 for high-need schools to furnish or refurbish their music programming.

Among submitted applications, 65 per cent of schools that received grants reported an annual budget of $500 or less for music classes. The new instruments and gear these schools will receive through the Band Aid Program are described as “once-in-a-generation opportunities.”

The MusiCounts Band Aid Program supports all kinds of music education, with 2021 recipients including recording studios, drum-making workshops, ukulele ensembles, and more.

“MusiCounts is proud to support the incredible work of teachers and educators from across Canada, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, when delivering quality music education has been a unique challenge.”

Other Alberta groups that benefited are in Edmonton, Calgary, Wabasca, Warburg, Kitscoty, Tsuut’ina and Lloydminster.
