A Tour of Alberta stop in Red Deer has support of Red Deer city council.

On Monday, council agreed to allocate $77,000 towards the expenses related to the Tour of Alberta, subject to a letter of intent between the city and the local organizing committee.

Councillors said the timing was perfect in light of the city’s centennial and the exposure will pay dividends for the city.

The city is being considered the third-stage finish community.

The international cycling event will race through small towns and communities between Sept. 3 and 8. Communities will be announced in March and the route unveiled in April.
