At their regular council meeting on November 26, the Town of Blackfalds Council approved the 2020 capital budget which included the Branding Initiative for $35,000.

Led by the Brand Development Committee (BDC), project members will be engaging the community to solicit input from residents, business and stakeholders that will help shape the future of our community and the culture of the municipality.

“Rebranding is a comprehensive process that creates opportunity for business and economic development, as well as a method of creating excitement for citizens within the community. Council has chosen to commit funding to the next step of this project,” explained Mayor Poole.

“Please be assured that it is much more than simply changing a logo. The purpose of this project has been explained to be one that will engage our business community, volunteer groups and individual citizens with the challenge of making our great Town greater. I hope that residents will stay engaged and look for opportunities to provide their feedback to the committee that is tasked with moving this project along.”

The project came about after the Town of Blackfalds Economic Development & Tourism Advisory Committee (EDTAC) expressed interest in having the town undertake a rebrand/refresh in November of 2018. As a result, a rebranding report was prepared by the Economic Development Officer (EDO) and presented to council on Jan. 14, 2019 on behalf of EDTAC which recommended further research and learning on re-branding in the 2019 year.

“Branding Blackfalds will give us the opportunity to share a consistent story that portrays the personality of our community. Having unified messaging will create strong community identity and civic pride for residents, foster a prosperous business climate, and attract visitors and new investment to town,” shared Heather Buelow, Chair of the Brand Development Committee.

The first step of the Branding Initiative will have the BDC conducting Blackfalds Logo and Tagline Testing. The public is invited to complete a survey between Jan. 20 – 27, at www.blackfalds\brandblackfalds, or anyone interested can request an individual interview by contacting communications@blackfalds.com or 403.885.6246.
