Olds residents are encouraged to participate in Random Acts of Kindness week and make their community the “Kindest Town in the West!”

After two years of social distancing due to the global pandemic, the Town of Olds is encouraging people to get out and about with a fun competition during Random Acts of Kindness Week, from Feb. 12 to 18.

Activities will culminate with global Random Act of Kindness Day on Friday, Feb. 17, when acts of goodness to others will be recognized, celebrated and encouraged.

The Town’s Community Services department has created a kindness bingo card for residents, who will have a chance to win prizes for their acts of niceness.

Heather Dixon, Town of Olds Lead Community Facilitator, said performing kind acts for others is linked to increased feelings of happiness and positivity, “and can even encourage those who witness kind acts to repeat what they see.

“With that in mind, let’s inspire kindness and promote thoughtfulness in our communities today and every day,” she added.

Random Acts of Kindness Bingo Cards can be downloaded from the Towns’s website at www.olds.ca/aok, as well as various locations throughout the community. There are cards for students, seniors, and others.

Activities are simple to carry out: Donate something to someone in need, help someone carry something, or buy a coffee for someone.

Once participants have completed the activities, the card can be submitted to the Town for a chance to win prizes in each category. Details are at www.olds.ca/aok.
