A trial date will be set for two men accused of stealing a trailer and skid steer from a work site near Bowden in July.

Curtis Troy Sear, 39, and Sean Davis Olsen, 38, were charged with offences that included possession of stolen property and possession of cocaine.

On Friday in Red Deer provincial court, both waived their rights to a preliminary hearing that was scheduled to take place in the afternoon. Such hearings are held to determine the strength of the Crown’s case against the accused.

Sear and Olsen were charged after a member of the Innisfail RCMP detachment became suspicious when he saw two pickup trucks stopped at the side of a road near Penhold at about 6 a.m. on July 26.

The two men were in the midst of hooking up a trailer that had a skid steer mounted on its deck.

The case returns to court for arraignment on Oct. 6 in Court of Queen’s Bench to set a trial date.
