A Red Deer massage therapist accused of sexual assault has been ordered to stand trial.

RCMP said last December that they were notified of an alleged sexual assault on Feb. 23, 2022. The investigation led to the arrest of a suspect, who was accused of sexually assaulting a female youth at a chiropractor business in downtown Red Deer.

Police asked in December that if any member of the public was aware of similar alleged incidents involving the suspect to notify police.

Brian Moore, 51, of Red Deer County has been charged with sexual assault. He was ordered to stand trial in Red Deer provincial court on Thursday. A trial date has not yet been set.

Also in Red Deer court this week, new dates for a jury trial were set for a Sylvan Lake man accused of defrauding investors out of $2.6 million at least a decade ago.

Dane Michael Skinner, 58, is scheduled to go to trial in Red Deer Court of King’s Bench from Feb. 20 to March 15, 2024.

This is the third time a trial has been scheduled for Skinner. A trial was initially to take place in September 2021. That was rescheduled to begin on Jan. 30, 2023 and was to run until Feb. 8.

Skinner is facing charges of fraud over $5,000 and laundering the proceeds of crime in connection with an alleged scheme to sell a product that made fracking operations at oil wells cheaper and more environmentally friendly. He was arrested and charged in July 2018.

Blackfalds RCMP allege at least 16 people sank money into a scheme between December 2007 and February 2013 and backers lost more than $2.6 million.

RCMP also alleged investors were wrongly led to believe the technology was about to be sold to another company, leading to a financial windfall.
