Trust fund for children raises thousands in only few days

Mother’s death in Red Deer ruled a homicide

An online fundraiser to enable a trust fund for the two children of a single mother from Lacombe who died was nearing its goal of $75,000 on Friday after only a few days of being established.

The Randee Stewart Memorial page on the Go Fund Me website had reached the $64,000 mark of a $75,000 goal on Friday morning.

Stewart, who was 25 at the time of her death, was the mother of two young children. She died after an incident in Red Deer on Feb. 1 and her death was subsequently ruled a homicide. A 34-year-old Red Deer man has been charged with manslaughter with a firearm.

The Go Fund page says Stewart’s children include a four-year-old daughter and a son who is just about to turn one year old.

“Randee was a beautiful young lady with a whole lot of promise and 2 beautiful young shining stars at her side. Randee enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with her family. She was active in sports in her high school days and became a devoted loving mother in her last 5 years with us,” stated the Go Fund page, which was created on Tuesday by her father, Dean Stewart.
