A man and a woman from Maskwacis are among four people facing drug trafficking charges after RCMP searched a home in a Wetaskiwin trailer park.

Wetaskiwin RCMP, including members of its crime reduction unit, executed a search warrant last Friday at a residence in the Wildrose Trailer Park.

“The investigation into the trafficking of illicit opioids was initiated after Wetaskiwin saw five drug overdoses within a week, including one death from suspected overdose,” said RCMP in a Monday news release.

A 29-year-old man and and a 28-year-old woman from Maskwacis, a 62-year-old Wetaskiwin man and a 36-year-old Edmonton man are each facing two counts of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

The woman from Maskwacis has also been charged with obstructing police and the Maskwacis man is facing a charge of non complying with an undertaking. The Edmonton suspect has also been charged with breaching probation.

All four remain in custody and will appear in Wetaskiwin provincial court this week.
